FAMILY AND SOCIAL SERVICES
Our professional and experienced Family Services staff offers a wide range of programs to help individuals and families overcome daunting obstacles.  We strive to empower people and to enable those in need to change their circumstances and overcome the challenges that stand in their way. We provide counseling, food, clothing, rental and deposit assistance, PG&E assistance and much more.  In partnership with local companies we sponsor Back-to-School shopping sprees and coordinate our Christmas programs and warehouse.

Rent & Deposit
Individuals and Families may be eligible for assistance with past due rent or move in costs if they live in one of the following zip codes:
95013, 95037, 95119, 95120, 95121, 95122, 95123, 95127, 95132, 95135, 95137, 95138, 95139, 95141, 95148, 95192, 95193

Hours:
Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 11:30 am and 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Fridays 8:00 am – 12:00 pm

If you do not fall under one of the zip codes mentioned above please call "211" for the agency servicing your area.

Utilities
If you are experiencing difficulties paying your energy bill, you may qualify for assistance (some restrictions apply to those on section 8, subsidized housing).  We offer several programs to assist families or individuals who have had their utilities shut off or are in jeopardy of having services terminated.

REACH Programs serve the communities of Alviso, Milpitas, Campbell, Santa Clara and San Jose.

Food
Our food pantry provides individuals and families in need with one week’s supply of nutritional fresh and canned groceries.  Gift cards to local food retailers may also be provided to qualifying individuals.

Friday 8:00 am – 12:00 pm only

Eligibility requirements:
The Salvation Army Santa Clara services families and individuals living in the following zip codes: 95013, 95035. 95050, 95051, 95052, 95053, 95054, 95111, 95112, 95119, 95120, 95121, 95122, 95123, 95126, 95128, 95131, 95132, 95134, 95135, 95136, 95137, 95138, 95139, 95141, 95192, 95193.

Clients outside of the zip codes listed above will be served on a one time basis and referred to the Second Harvest Food Bank at 408-266-8950 to find out which agency serves their zip code.

What you will need:

  • All clients are required to show proof of address.  A recent (no more than 30 days old) PGE, telephone or cable bill with your name and current address is required.
  • Picture ID (valid State ID, Mexican Console, check cashing card, bank card, prison/county jail ID).  This information must be provided for any adults in the home 18 years or older.
  • Birth certificates / medical cards / immunization cards for children under the age of 18.

Clothing vouchers for local retail outlets are available for qualified individuals and families.  For assistance call 408-282-1165 x210

Transportation
We provide local bus tokens to individuals who are on a job search, need to get to doctor / dental appointments or appointments with local government agencies to obtain services.  Clients can pick up bus tokens once every six months providing they are available.  We recommend calling for eligibility and availability prior to coming in 408-282-1165 x3210.

Back to School
We offer a variety of programs to assist qualifying low income families in the purchase of school clothes, school uniforms, backpacks and school supplies.
           
Seniors
The Salvation Army’s Senior Center is a ‘home away from home’ for our seniors where they can meet up with old friends and make new ones, enjoy activities, field trips and games.  The Salvation Army helps seniors maintain a healthy and independent lifestyle by providing nutritional meals 5 days a week approved by a County Registered Dietician while the ‘brown bag’ program supplements their pantry at home; a wide variety of events and activities keep our seniors active, entertained and in the company of friends; transportation to and from the center and much more.         

Youth
The various Salvation Army Corps provide a wide range of youth programs specifically designed to enrich children as we encourage their journey through childhood.  Our programs help children make positive decisions, stimulate creativity and foster independence through summer camps, music lessons and troop style programs to name just a few.  We provide a wide range of programs dedicated to enriching our youth while providing safe and affordable care.  Our programs are fun, educational and a great place to build confidence and socialize with other children in the community.

Season of Caring
The holidays are a difficult time for the increasing number of people already struggling to make ends meet.  We go to great lengths to make the holidays memorable for thousands of families by providing food, gifts and other necessities.

The holiday season is our busiest time of the year.  A large warehouse is rented at the county fairgrounds and is packed to the rafters with food and toys, most provided by corporate participants in our Food for Friends and The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree Programs.

REHABILITATION

Emmanuel House

History
The Emmanuel House has been serving the Santa Clara County since 1966 and endeavors to provide the services needed to answer the questions of homelessness.  The Emmanuel House has a full range of services to anyone needing assistance to make the final move from homelessness.

Our Mission Is Based On The Bible
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.    Matthew 25:35

Services

  • Soup Kitchen -  our kitchen serves approximately 200 hot, nutritious meals to the public twice daily, Monday through Saturday 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m.
  • Transient Over-Night Program – provides over-night shelter to homeless men on a first come first served basis.  Visitors are provided a shower, hot meal and an opportunity to wash clothes at no expense to them.  Sign-up 1:30 p.m. – first come, first served.  The first 14 nights are free, $5 for each additional night

Admission Criteria: The individual must be alcohol and drug free at the time of intake.

  • Volunteer Program – our program encourages visitors to make the most of our volunteer opportunities providing services around the Emmanuel House while they are waiting for an opening into the Adult Rehabilitation Center or other programs where they can start the recovery process. We also encourage attendance and participation in NA, Process Group, Bible Study and Sunday Services.
    Admission Criteria:  The individual must be alcohol and drug free prior to becoming a volunteer and have a desire to enter a program of their choice to reinforce their recovery and sobriety.
  • Motivate Man Program – a short term residency program designed for men who are employed with a company or business in the local community on a full time basis.  Receiving temporary shelter, support and assistance, while saving money offers the recovering individual an environment to develop a future independent lifestyle.
    Admission Criteria:  The individual must be drug and alcohol free prior to entry, have gainful employment, a letter from the employer to verify said employment, $80 at the time of intake, pass a urinalysis at the time of intake and a desire to develop an independent lifestyle.
  • Spiritual Guidance and services are available to anyone who has the desire to receive spiritual uplifting. 

Emmanuel House maintains a 28 bed overnight shelter for homeless men and Working Man Program for 40.  Spiritual guidance is available as well as referrals to the Rehabilitation Center.  They also serve hot meals to the public twice daily.  Our facility stayed open through our recent remodel.  Even through the construction and remodel we still provided the following:

Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC)
The San Jose Adult Rehabilitation Center helps men to overcome serious life problems, such as alcohol and drug dependencies.  By acquiring self respect, good work habits, and spiritual principles they are able to find purpose, meaning, and self-sufficiency in their lives.

A Program for Change
The Salvation ARCs form the largest network of rehabilitation programs in the nation.  Their purpose is to help men and women overcome serious life problems, such as drug and alcohol dependencies.  The ARC gives them opportunities to stabilize their lives and regain confidence and self-respect.  Development of a good work ethic and other responsible behaviors is encouraged.  Spiritual growth and moral regeneration brings hope, purpose and meaning to their lives.

Program Overview
The ARC program is offered within a residential rehabilitation facility.  Housing, meals, clothing and rehabilitation services are provided without cost to participants.  The program lasts from 6 months to one year depending on the needs of the individual.  ARC staff work closely with their local court system.

Community Support
ARC’s are community supported through

  • Donations of clothing, furniture, appliances and household items
  • Donations of vehicles (cars, trucks, boats and RVs)
  • Purchases at Salvation Army Family Stores and Boutiques
  • Volunteers who help in the counseling program or with donation processing 
  • Business partners who donate surplus goods and property space for Salvation Army donation trailers
